Nelson was know as the father of the modern outdoor gear industry. His Trapper Nelson Indian Pack Board were the earliest example of a mass produced frame pack. These pack boards became a staple for the US Forest Service and the Boy Scouts. Nelson sold the business to his partner, Charles Trager in 1929 and the company then went on under the label of Trager Manufacturing Company.
